“Halloween!” – Evelyn’s Diaries

I have been on high alert this week!

After what felt like a perfectly normal and happy weekend, something crazy happened on Monday. There had been an overnight invasion! Nobody had seen it coming, or at least I hadn’t. I left the house to find that the whole world had been taken over by monsters, ghosts, vampires…and a few princesses. A weird combination of creatures to invade admittedly, but scary all the same!

However, what struck me most of all was how all the adults were completely unmoved by the invasion. We were literally walking amongst all these creatures and none of the adults acknowledged them at all. Immediately, my brain went into overdrive with possible theories.

Can only children see the creatures? Are they all here to steal my toys? Did the adults plan it all? Have I inhaled too much finger paint and am I hallucinating? All I knew was, I needed to get to the bottom of it. I knew I had to do this alone, I couldn’t risk involving the adults who could have planned all of this. Thinking about it, I should have seen this coming, considering the fact my Daddy has been turning into a dinosaur all the time.

I stayed vigilant and monitored the adults closely. Look at this photo of me doing my monitoring, I can be so intense when I need to be.

Due to my superior intelligence, it wasn’t too long before I figured out their code word for the whole operation. Operation: Halloween.

They kept talking about how they were planning on feeding the creatures with chocolates and sweets, some adults were even paying them! Paying them for what I wondered? Sure enough, when I got home, I see a bucket of sweets waiting outside of our front door. I tried to steal the bucket, but I was quickly intercepted by my Daddy who said they are not for me and that they are for Halloween. Daddy had no idea I was on to him, and that I knew what Halloween was just a code word…Daddy isn’t the smartest, but I am!

I was running out of options. The reality was that if all adults in the world were in on this, I was slightly outnumbered, as I know there are at least 8 adults out there. However, before I could decide my next step, the biggest plot twist that has ever happened in the history of plot twists occurred! I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and to my horror, I saw that I had become a terrifying creature too! I was wearing a scary Peppa Pig dress!

When did this happen? How did this happen? I am no monster…or so I thought!

My world was spinning, I paced around our kitchen in dismay, questioning my whole reality. I was part of the invasion and I had no idea.

However, I later found out that there was no invasion, there were no creatures and everyone just dresses up for one day of the year and gets free sweets and money. They call this Halloween. Easy mistake to make I suppose.

In all honesty, my theory of what has happening seemed way better than what was actually happening. Anyway, the next day I went to Costa and forgot all about it.

This is so sweet, I love the way it’s told completely from her perspective! Makes me realise how weird things like Halloween are for kids actually
