“My first haircut” – Evelyn’s Diaries

Thursday 24th November 2022, a day that will always live in my memory. It is the day my parents arranged for my hair to be chopped off for the first time.

What I will start by saying, is that I was not consulted in this decision to get my hair chopped off. I woke up as usual and everything seemed normal. However, I quickly knew something was going on, as my Mammy in particular seemed rather shifty. Then my Daddy entered the room and just blurted it out.

“Evelyn are you excited for your first hair cut today?”

“I’m sorry what!?” I thought to myself, as I haven’t learned how to say these words yet. Instead, I just looked at him sternly, so he could see that I was not amused.

Both my parents seemed rather excited about the fact they are going to remove my hair. I however, felt completely blindsided that such a decision had been taken.

Does my hair get in my eyes all the time? Yes.

Is my hair an absolute mess every morning? Yes.

But that does not give them the right to simply remove it? No!

My Daddy left for work in the middle of this crisis, like this was a completely normal thing to happen. Meanwhile, I am left feeling stressed about how cold my head is going to be. My Mammy took me to the shop where they chop people’s hair off, apparently they are called “Hairdressers”…more like “Hair-undressers”.

They sat me down and they brought out a little TV and put “Hey Duggee” on. I had a split decision to make. I did not want my hair chopped off. However, I do like watching Hey Duggee. What to do?

Without realising it, I had become completely distracted by Duggee. I had forgotten why I was even there in the first place. When I looked up, I saw a lady chopping off my hair! She was going so fast and more and more of my hair was falling to the floor. It was too late I thought, I guess it was time to say goodbye to my hair. I guess I will have wear hats forever.

Very soon it was all over and it was time to look into the mirror and see what the results were.

To my surprise, I could see hair! Not all of my hair was chopped off! There was lots of my hair on the floor, but still lots of hair on my head too. I also noticed that the lady had put a pretty pattern in my hair, which I loved! Maybe the hairdressers aren’t so bad.

I think I can get used to this. I turn up, watch Duggee and a nice lady makes my hair pretty. Best of all, Mammy and Daddy pay for it. Something tells me I am going to be asking for this a lot as I get older.

Anyway, look at the pictures of my pretty new hair. Don’t I look fabulous?
