About me

Hello! Welcome to the The Blog Standard Parent website and blog.

My name is Daniel and I am the man behind the blog! First of all, why The Blog Standard Parent you ask? Well, when thinking of names for the blog, I wanted to highlight that whilst I have worked in a professional capacity supporting parents for years, in reality we can all be “bog standard” parents at times and I am no different. So with a clever play on words, “The Blog Standard Parent” was born… (I thought it was clever anyway!)

My background

A little more information about me…

For the last 10 years and counting, I have supported both parents and families in a variety of roles, addressing a range of issues. I have worked in both Primary and Secondary education in pastoral and safeguarding roles. I worked as a Parenting Outreach Worker, supporting parents and families in their home with the challenges of family life. Currently, I work with parents and families to help identify areas of concerns and ensure these families get all the help and support they need.

Simply put, I have been there on the ground floor with parents, side by side, tackling all the challenges parents can face!

I have always loved being in positions or roles to help people. As I have gotten older, I have focused this passion towards helping parents and families in particular. We can all struggle as parents. It doesn’t matter how much training or knowledge you have, parenting is not easy! This is something I have learned firsthand as I became a parent myself.

My family

I am a husband to my wife Mary and father to the most amazing little girl…my daughter Evelyn. My wife and I welcomed Evelyn to the world in 2020 during the COVID lockdown. As a result, we have encountered a number of challenges on our parenting journey so far.

It hasn’t been easy and there have been a number of significant barriers my wife and I have both faced over these last few years. I plan on sharing and discussing many of these barriers with you in future posts.

But on a happier note, you will find a section of the blog named, “Evelyn’s Diaries”. Here you will find light-hearted and funny diary entries written through the eyes of my daughter. Toddlers are busy little people, so go and visit Evelyn’s Diaries and enjoy seeing the world through her eyes!

My blog

I decided to create a blog, as I wanted to share my knowledge as a professional who has supported parents and families, together with my experiences as a parent. The goal being to create honest, relatable, detailed and supportive content that may help other parents and families who are facing similar difficulties.

Due to the nature of my work, I am in the position to notice the trends and themes of the issues most families face. Therefore, I plan to use this to create targeted posts that thoroughly explore these issues and provide helpful advice as to what parents can do.

Parents are not given a manual of “How to parent” when their children are born. Parenting is hard and full of ups and downs. If you are a parent who is struggling, know this…

You are not alone! You can overcome the challenges! There is light at the end of the tunnel!
