“Daddy’s Birthday” – Evelyn’s Diaries

There was plenty of excitement around this week, as it was my Daddy’s birthday!

Being completely honest, I didn’t really care about it being my Daddy’s birthday, I was more excited about the fact it usually means we do fun activities. Last year for my Daddy’s birthday, we went to the Funshack, which is basically a massive soft play theme park! So I couldn’t wait to find out what activity we had in store this time!

On the morning of Daddy’s birthday, I gave him a courtesy birthday kiss and cuddle. I then gave him his birthday card and his presents. He was taking ages to open the presents, so I decided to sneakily open some of the presents myself, so we could get it all over with and go have fun!

Thankfully, we got all the cards and presents out the way and we could now start thinking about the important part of the day. Soon enough, I found out the plan…we were going bowling! Brilliant!

We had been bowling once before when we were on holiday in Center Parcs and it was a lot of fun. Therefore, I was excited to learn that there is another place for bowling in the world…and I live near it!

We arrived at bowling and made our way to where we would play. I was so excited, I did a little dance. It turns out, I am really good at bowling. When it is my turn, my Daddy picks up my ball, gets a big metal thing that your ball rolls down, he puts the ball on top of it, aims the metal thing at the pins and then it is my time to shine! I walk up and give the ball a little push and off it goes! Then I stand back in admiration as I watch the results of all my hard work and skill.

I hit the pins every single time! Sometimes, I would knock them all over so there were none left to hit!

Weirdly, my Mammy and Daddy kept using their hands and were throwing the ball to the left and right, where it would just roll past the pins and miss them all. It was a silly strategy in my eyes, you have a big metal thing right in front of you and you can see how well I am doing with it, yet they decided to use their hands.

We played two games and guess what…I won both games. That’s right, a two year old beat their parents…twice!

They just couldn’t grasp that bowling is a tactical sport, all about strategy and precision. I worked that out really quickly, which is why I won. Mammy and Daddy just kept lumbering around chucking balls all over the place. It was also great to beat Daddy on his birthday and watch the enjoyment leave his eyes, he hates to lose.

As I did last year, I thoroughly enjoyed my Daddy’s birthday. Not sure how much enjoyment he had, but that’s not my problem. I let him pay to take me on some arcade games after bowling to cheer him up.
