“Happy Birthday Oliver!” – Evelyn’s Diaries

It was time to put on my best dress and my dancing shoes this week…as I was invited to a birthday party! My friend Oliver turned one year old and was having his first birthday party.

However, I am a bit confused about the whole thing. Everyone is saying that this is his first birthday, but correct me if I am wrong…is this not his second birthday? His first birthday was the day he was born. It is literally in the title of the event, “BIRTH DAY”. He was born last year, therefore, he has already had a birthday. So this is his second birthday but he is still one year old. Why are all the adults pretending like the actual birth day didn’t happen? Adults are weird.

Anyway, I soon got over this when I arrived at the party. My Mammy and Daddy being the useless parents that they are, had not briefed me on the etiquette of arriving at parties. Nobody told me that I should greet the hosts and extend birthday wishes to the birthday boy. Instead, my parents immediately pointed out the soft play at the party and I soon ran off to explore it. I did not greet any hosts, nor did I wish Oliver a Happy Birthday. Without realising it, I had insulted our hosts…thanks for that Mammy and Daddy!

Therefore, I would like to apologise to Oliver for not wishing him a happy birthday upon my arrival. However, I would like to commend him on his choice of soft play, it was a lot of fun!

Oliver is clearly very popular, as there were lots of people at the party. Furthermore, the party entertainment was excellent. We had soft play, with lots of big soft blocks to climb on and throw around. There were lots of bikes and vehicles to drive around, and the best part of all…the MASSIVE BALL PIT! Needless to say, I sampled all of the above.

Now, I have had some pretty bad experiences at social events with other children (which you can read about here). However, I pleased to say that at this party, I made some new friends. There I was, minding my own business, making a block tower out of the soft play blocks and along came two older girls who started to help me. My first instinct was to go on the attack and throw a block at them (I have learned you have to strike first). However, I opted against this strategy and waited to see how it played out.

To my delight, the friendly girls stayed friendly. They helped me climb blocks, go down slides and played in the ball pit with me. When it was time to go, they even came up to me and gave me a hug. I miss my new friends.

The highlight of any birthday has to be the cake! Oliver’s cake had lots of different animals on them and I was very excited by it. I simply had to get to it! I tried to wrestle past my Mammy to get to it, but unfortunately, she is a little bit bigger and stronger than me…for now anyway.

Soon, we were all singing Happy Birthday to Oliver and it was time to cut the cake. My Mammy asked me if I wanted some cake, which was a silly question really. Of course I want the cake, I have been trying to fight for it for the last 10 minutes. Mammy grabbed me a piece of cake, sat me down and it was time to eat it.

However, as pay back…I decided I didn’t want it anymore. You missed your chance Mammy, you should of let me had it when I wanted it.

Anyway, Happy Birthday Oliver, your party was lots of fun.
