“Sliding through life” – Evelyn’s Diaries

After my traumatic week of terrifying spider and fly encounters, it was back to fun and games this week.

Last weekend I discovered a secret that my Mammy was keeping for me. It turns out that she had bought me a new toy for the garden and hadn’t told me about it! Instead of telling me, she had hidden it, hoping to surprise me with it one day.

What Mammy did not account for, is that I is a super detective and nothing gets past me!

I knew something was up when my Mammy was in the garden moving things around and creating space. She was trying to be sneaky in doing so, but I kept a watchful eye on her movements. My mammy is many things, but sneaky is not one of them.

Something was hidden behind a chair in the garden. My attention peaked immediately, however, I had to pick my moment to go over to the window and investigate. Suddenly, I had that window of opportunity! I asked Mammy for a snack, so she got up and went into the kitchen to get me one. Immediately, I seized the opportunity and launched myself towards the window.

It was hidden behind a garden chair. Tall, colourful and it had steps. What could it be? Then I connected all the dots! IT WAS A SLIDE! MY VERY OWN SLIDE! Or…at least I assumed it was, as Mammy and Daddy were far too big to use it themselves.

My excitement grew and grew as Mammy returned and I notified her that I had discovered her secret. In all honesty, my Mammy did a rubbish job of hiding it. My Daddy agreed with me, as he pointed out to Mammy that she had hidden a bright red and blue slide, behind a brown chair on the green grass. Nothing could be less camouflaged than that slide was in our garden.

Putting this aside, I was desperate to go out and play on my slide. Mammy dressed me in my coat, hat and gloves. My shoes were on and I was soon released to the garden to play with my new toy. I climbed the steps carefully and sat down at the top. I looked down at the 100ft drop to the bottom. This was a big slide…or so it felt.

I slid down and the world around me blurred as I fell. My bottom hit the grass as I landed at the bottom. I stood up, with a wet bottom and looked at Mammy who was smiling and excited to hear my review. It was at this point I decided that I was bored and wanted to go back into the house and proceeded to walk back in.

Annoying Daddy

Daddy who was also watching, rolled his eyes at me and uttered something to Mammy along the lines of, “Is that it then?” Don’t know what his problem is, I went down the slide didn’t I?

I will probably go back and play with the side when it is sunnier and warmer, but for now, it is far too much fun annoying Daddy by not playing on the slide.

Anyway, he can’t stay upset at me for long. I just send him cute photos of me dressed up as Snow White, like this…
