“Spiders and Flies” – Evelyn’s Diaries

It has been a difficult week for me this week, as I have unfortunately developed two more fears.

My millions of followers will know all too well, that I face my fair share of challenging situations. From deep sea diving at Water Babies, to negotiating with Santa, surviving a car wash and most recently, being assaulted at play group.

However, I faced two challenges this week that I simply could not overcome. Without any warning, I was suddenly and maliciously confronted….by a fly and a spider!

For any of you who don’t know what a fly is, they are super small, black, buzzy, evil creatures that fly faster than the speed of light. They are sneaky little things. You can be sat very happily watching Finding Nemo and without knowing, a fly has plotted to terrify you and will fly around your ear and make the loudest buzzing noise ever! I can’t relax anymore!

Under attack!

When under attack from the fly, I immediately alerted my Mammy and Daddy. As per usual, they completely misunderstood the gravity of the situation, as they laughed at me and said, “It’s only a fly Evelyn”.

Thanks for stating the obvious Mam. That is just like saying, “Don’t worry Evelyn, it’s only a massive fire in the house”. Yes I know what it is, I am more concerned with what you are going to do about it!

Take a look at the picture…that is my concerned face. How do you see that face and not immediately share my concern?

In the end, nothing was done. Honestly…parents are a nightmare.

Having only just settled down from the trauma of my fly encounter, I was then faced with another terrifying creature. THE SPIDER! You would think we live in a zoo. I am half expecting a film crew to arrive to document my encounters with all these creatures.

Spiders are different from flies. Spiders don’t fly, don’t buzz and can be different sizes. The scary part of spiders is that they can just suddenly be there, like they have just come out of absolutely nowhere! I have never actually seen a spider move.

There could be nothing at all on the floor, I look away for a second and next thing I know, there is a spider stood there looking at me with thousands of eyes and millions of legs. When I watch spiders closely, they don’t move an inch. However, I could look away and look back and they vanish! How do they do that!? Spiders are so creepy.

I feel like spiders are playing a psychological game. They just want you to know they can get to you anywhere at anytime. They don’t actually do anything to me, but they want me to know that they could!

As pointless as I thought it would be, I thought it would be worthwhile notifying my Mammy of the spider situation. Just in case she was in the mood to actually help her only child survive this crisis. To my surprise, she did care this time! Mammy got rid of the spider with a clever technique of getting a wet wipe and hitting it. From hearing the noises coming from her as she dealt with the spider, I don’t think my Mammy likes spiders either.

High alert

As a result, I am now constantly on high alert as I scan the air for flies and the walls and floors for spiders. This is my house, not their house. They are trespassing. I just wish my Mammy and Daddy took this invasion more seriously. If a cow just suddenly walked into the house, they would do something about it, so what’s the difference if it is a fly or spider? Flies and spiders are way scarier than cows.
