“Evelyn vs Santa” – Evelyn’s Diaries

It has been an encounter that I have been building up to over these last few weeks. I have heard many tales about Santa and his exploits. From flying reindeer, to his workshop at the North Pole. However, one thing stood out to me more than anything.

The fact that Santa goes from house to house, stealing all the little children’s milk and nobody says anything about it! He just leaves a bunch of presents to make your forget about the fact your milk is gone…well Evelyn doesn’t forget! It is about time someone stood up to Santa, and this week I got my chance.

Every week my Nanna takes me to a play group. I was informed a couple of weeks ago that Santa was coming to visit the play group and bring us all presents. Instantly, my mind had two thoughts. Firstly, I must start hiding my milk in preparation. Secondly, I am going to confront him about it.

The day had finally arrived.

I wore my Christmas jumper that day, as I knew it would throw Santa off the scent that I am coming for him! Santa would just see a cute little girl with her Christmas jumper on, then BANG! I would take off my jumper, throw it to the floor and tell him that I am on to his evil scheme and I am bringing it to an end!…that’s how I thought it would go in my head anyway.

There was one small hiccup in my plan, which I didn’t expect. I did not account for how absolutely terrifying Santa was!

I was happily playing with my toys, when I heard the door open and a loud “Ho! Ho! Ho!” was shouted. In he walked. Wearing a big red suit, big red hat and he had a big white beard. I have seen the pictures and films, but the real thing was so much scarier. How was I going to confront him when I was so scared?

Immediately, I went to seek comfort from my Nanna, who reassured me that Santa was nice and that he had presents for me. I tried to pluck up some courage to approach him and asked my Nanna for some help. I pulled up my big girl pants, put on a brave face and asked my Nanna to carry me over.

And this is how it went…(see picture)

I had failed.

Santa was too scary and I wasn’t brave enough to stand up to him. Maybe I just need to do what everyone else does and just give him my milk in exchange for presents.

Santa left and I began to settle down and think about calling a truce with Santa. He was big and scary, but even though I cried, he still gave me a present. Maybe he wasn’t so bad after all?

Just as that thought entered my mind, to my surprise Santa walked back into the room! As I wasn’t expecting this, I immediately burst out crying again and ran away to hide with my Nanna.

Give a girl a break Santa, I was just starting to calm down!
