“Fun at the farm!” – Evelyn’s Diaries

Pigs, Sheep, Goats, Cows, Donkeys, Alpacas, Llamas and something called Wallabies. I am now an expert in all of them. Want to know how? Because I have been to the Farm! Not just any farm, but Hall Hill Farm.

This week, my Daddy took some time off work to take me on some days out. (He made me put this in my diary post, to make him sound like a good Daddy). One of these days out, was a trip to Hall Hill Farm in Lanchester. Now I LOVE a good farm. I am very skilled at animal noises. I specialise in pig, sheep and cow noises.

There was so much to do at the farm. First of all, we went to see the pigs. I love Peppa Pig on TV, therefore, I did feel rather underwhelmed when I saw them all lying asleep. I tried to communicate with them and made an “Oink”, but they all ignored me. Moving on.

Next, we found some very excited goats and sheep. This is the type of greeting I expected, all of them running up to the fence saying hello to me. My Daddy had bought some sheep and goat food and we started to feed them. When my Daddy started feeding them, they all ran towards him. I am starting to think they were only excited about the food and not seeing me. I had a turn at feeding the sheep. It was all very funny. I couldn’t stop laughing and dropped most of the food on the floor before I got to the sheep.

After the goats and sheep, we did some more exploring. I saw a Donkey. I looked at the Donkey. The Donkey looked at me. I then walked off. It was intense.

BUT THEN…THE PLAY BARN! It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I had to run in straight away and try out the soft play. Nobody else was there, so I had it all to myself. Running, climbing, falling and sliding, I did the lot! However, my Daddy then comes out with one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever heard. “Come on Evelyn, we will go see some animals and come back later.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. He picked up my cardigan and coat, in some sort of crazy expectation that I was ready to comply. I was not putting that cardigan on, that was a gateway cardigan. Gateway to a coat, which is a gateway to shoes and then to leaving soft play. What on Earth does “Later” mean anyway? One minute, an hour, next week…I was taking no chances, so I entered combat mode.

First tactic, flop to the floor. Be like jelly I thought, you can’t put a coat on jelly. Second tactic, scream. Let everyone on the farm know that something horrific is happening. Final tactic, pull a very angry face at Daddy, so that he is in no doubt that I am displeased with him. Fool proof, or so I thought. My Daddy is crafty. Turns out he could get the Jacket on, there was nobody else in the play barn, so he didn’t care I was screaming and he laughed at my angry face. I lost the battle but the war was not over.

I soon forgave Daddy, as we did come back to the soft play.

You may remember in a previous diary post that I am now a qualified pilot. Well I now have another feather in the cap. That’s right, I am now a tractor driver.

I drove two different sizes of tractor in the play barn and did so expertly. I was very excited, as I knew we were going on a tractor ride later in the morning. We arrived at the tractor, naturally I was expecting that I would be driving, as I was now qualified. Weirdly, we sat in the trailer at the back. It’s ok though, the other driver must have needed the practice, as it was a very bumpy ride.

Overall, I had a great day at the farm. There were lots of things to do and we could have stayed there all day! Other notable things we did were; hold some chicks, petted the rabbits, played in a digger and watched a sheep race. I very much look forward to going back to Hall Hill Farm…probably as the tractor driver.
