“Happy New Year! I’m back!” – Evelyn’s Diaries

First of all, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope that everyone had a very nice Christmas! I won’t even ask if you have missed me, I know you have.

It has only been a couple of weeks, but I feel like I have so many updates for you all. From Santa visiting my house, Christmas dinner fights, bubble guns and a New Year party. It has been a very busy couple of weeks!

But there is only one place to start. Santa.

It is no secret that I have had my battles with Santa in the past, which you can catch up with here. However, a deal was struck and peace was secured between myself and Santa. The deal being that if I left him some of my milk on Christmas Eve, he would bring me lots of nice presents. I am pleased to inform you that Santa held up his side of the bargain. Jokes on him though, I left him some of my Daddy’s milk and not my milk…because I’m crafty and that’s how I roll.

Christmas morning was very exciting. I was taken downstairs by my Mammy and Daddy and we checked to see if Santa had drank the milk, ate his mince pie and his reindeer had eaten the carrot, which he had!

Weirdly though, Santa had brought the end of the carrot back into the house and left it on the plate. Why would Santa take the carrot up to the reindeer, feed them with it, only to come back into the house and leave me your rubbish? We have a bin outside! It literally took more effort to come back into the house and put the end of the carrot back on the plate. I am not going to lie, it really wound me up. My Mammy and Daddy are not here to clean up after Santa’s mess, only my mess. Anyway, I turned around and saw a lovely bunch of presents and soon forgot about it all.

I opened lots of lovely presents, too many to count! However, I think there must have been some sort of mistake, as some presents I unwrapped had some clothes in. So I politely said “No” and moved them to one side. Weirdly, my Mammy and Daddy were telling me that I need to be thankful and show appreciation for them. But how am I meant to do that when I have a bubble gun in front of me ready to play with? Do Pyjamas fire bubbles out of them? I think not.

I spent Christmas day at my Nanna’s house. It turned out that Santa had been there too and there were more presents waiting for me, which was very exciting. After presents, it was time for Christmas dinner. The grownups all seemed very excited about Christmas dinner. I couldn’t care less and just wanted to get it over with so I can play with my toys.

However, it all soon descended into chaos.

My Daddy introduced me to something called a “Christmas Cracker”. We each held one end of it, we both pulled at the same time and it goes BANG! Not entirely sure what the whole point of it was, but out fell a chocolate from the cracker. My Daddy looked surprised and immediately snatched the chocolate away, saying “No, you can have that later, you are about to have your dinner”. To which my response was, “I don’t think so pal”.

I got myself into a state of combat readiness and immediately began throwing everything around me. Who does Daddy think he is to dictate to me when I can eat chocolate? Chocolate that I won fair and square and chocolate that was in MY Christmas cracker. However, my strategy of launching everything within my reach soon failed me, when I ran out of things to throw. In the end, everyone around the dinner table were sat eating their lunch, whilst I sat at the end of the table, with absolutely nothing around me, sat in a big sulk. But I suppose which family doesn’t argue at Christmas?

The Christmas period was wrapped up with an exciting New Year party at my friend’s house. I am not quite sure what a New Year is in all honesty. What happens to the old year? What was wrong with it and why do we need a new one? Either way, if it means we go to a party, I am all for it! My friend is a little bit littler than me, so he has lots of different toys which I enjoy stealing and playing with. He cannot quite walk yet, so I have the speed advantage. However, he is very sneaky and I look down and suddenly he is all up in my space trying to grab the toy I have! So I have to be on high alert.

However, I had a lovely time at the party and wore a sparkly blue dress, which made me look very grown up and sophisticated…which I am.

Overall, I have had a very busy Christmas period and I loved all of it. I am also enjoying that we have a lot more chocolate around than usual. I see my Mammy and Daddy eating a lot of it, so I better be quick to get my fair share.

Anyway, tell me what you did for your Christmas? Did anyone else fight around the dinner table? Or did Santa leave his rubbish in your house too? Still angry about that.
