“Holiday with Mammy” – Evelyn’s Diaries

As another week goes by, so does another week of adventures and social engagements for me.

This time, I have been on a holiday with my Mammy. You may be thinking, where was your Daddy Evelyn? Why didn’t he go on holiday with you? Good question, I don’t know. Nobody has really explained it to me. All I know is, is that Daddy has gone on his own holiday and I keep hearing the words “Stag Do” when Mammy and Daddy talk about it. I’m not really sure what a “Stag Do” is or what it means. But I think it must be some sort of Daddy only holiday.

Anyway, forget Daddy and his stupid holiday…Mammy and I went on our own adventure! We don’t need him!

Adventures with Mammy

We travelled what felt like a MILLION miles in the car to go and see my friend Reuben. As luck would have it, Mammy is also friends with Reuben’s Mammy and Daddy too! So that meant that Mammy would have someone to speak to whilst I played with Reuben, which is nice for her.

On our holiday, we had lots of activities planned. First of all we went to visit a farm to see all of the animals…well, not all the animals. Apparently they do not allow lions on the farm, so we made do with sheep, pigs and some chickens.

I had lots of fun running around and playing in the hay with Reuben. We had an excellent game of hide and seek. However, one thing that I do have to mention, is my vicious competitive streak. I take games seriously and I want to win. This may have come out slightly when it was my turn to hide. My Mammy was counting down, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…and I panicked! I didn’t have a hiding space. Therefore, I used my intuition and committed 100% to a potential hiding spot. At the last moment, I ran for the hiding spot, and like a salmon, I leapt what felt like 6ft into the air, launching myself behind a bale of hay, landing with a belly flop.

Weirdly, my Mammy and her friend could not stop laughing at my acrobatics. They clearly do not understand how seriously I take hide and seek, that is why they will never beat me.

We also visited some play areas that had lots of fun soft play and a wooden kitchen where we could play “chef”. Unfortunately, I am not yet an accomplished chef, but I can accept that. Of course I can whip together some porridge or mix some eggs like any other toddler, but I have some work to go in this area, so playing in the wooden kitchen was some helpful practice.

Glen the giraffe

On our holiday we slept at Reuben’s house. Reuben has SO many cool toys! He has soft play in his house, a drum kit and the best of all…a rocking giraffe that you sit on and plays music! I LOVED THE GIRAFFE! The giraffe is called Glen. Every time I was in Reuben’s house, I would go and find Glen. I would sit down and rock away my evenings with a big smile on my face.

However, all this time with Glen, led to me having some not very nice thoughts. What would happen if I stole Glen?

Evelyn – “the master criminal.”

Quite clearly, Glen and I had a bond. Reuben didn’t seem to my mind me playing with Glen all the time. Therefore, it led me to wonder if Reuben would miss Glen at all if he came on a little trip with me back to my house?  I know, I know…this is not a very nice thing to do. So I slept on it. Giving it some thought, I realised there was only one reasonable and right thing to do. I had a choice to make and I feel that having weighed up the options, I made the right choice. Glen is in my living room…I stole him.

Petty theft aside, I had a lovely holiday with my friend. Mammy seemed to have a nice time too, although I didn’t really pay much attention to what she was doing. I did speak with Daddy every now and then on the phone during my holiday. He always seemed very tired and was often in bed…I don’t see how his holiday was any fun.

Anyway, I want to say thank you to Reuben and his Mammy and Daddy for letting me come to their house on holiday. Reuben was a very good host and made sure I had a nice time. However, I am not sure I will be allowed back once they found out I robbed them.
