“I crossed the line” – Evelyn’s Diaries

I am sure I’m not the only two-year-old out there that is sometimes a bit naughty. However, this week…I may have crossed the line.

Technically, it wasn’t my fault. Nobody was listening to me. I was tired, hungry and I felt backed into a corner. There was no other option. I am going to have to admit it…I hit my Daddy this week.

Not only did I hit my Daddy, I also scratched him…twice. Once on the face that made him bleed and the other on his hand. But hear me out, there is a whole back story to this! Let me explain…

How it all started…

My Mammy and Daddy decided to take me swimming, which is one of my favourite things to do. Now I know this doesn’t sound like something worth hitting Daddy for, but wait, I will get to that part.

Swimming was really fun, and this time Mammy came too! Normally it is just Daddy that takes me. We did lots of splashing, dunking, and diving into the pool. I showed Mammy all my tricks of deep-sea diving, but soon it was time to leave. I don’t mind leaving the pool, as we get to go in the hot shower next to the pool to warm up, which is nice.

Daddy and I got dried and changed very quickly. This led to my Daddy suggesting to me that we go and play in the Peppa Pig car that was in the lobby, whilst we wait for Mammy to get ready. Again, this all seems very kind, so why would I hit and scratch Daddy?

Well…everything was going fine at first. I was driving Peppa’s car, Daddy was sat happily watching me. The world was going by marvelling at my driving skills (they must not know I am a skilled pilot and tractor driver).

Suddenly, out of absolutely nowhere my Daddy comes up and says something to me that shocked me to my core. Honestly, I am not sure if you are even allowed to type what he said, but I am going to. So prepare yourself…

My Daddy walked up to me. Looked at me square in the eye. He was even smiling, as he leaned over and said, “Evelyn, it’s time to go.”

The nerve of the man to suggest such a thing. I made my displeasure at this statement immediately known and did so in as loud a way as possible! I screamed, cried and shouted at Daddy telling him it was not time to go! He didn’t listen to me at all, which was ironic as he is always telling me to listen to him. Typical.

As I am still a lot smaller than Daddy, he was able to lift me out of the car. I am getting so sick of just being picked up and moved around, I am a two years old and I have rights…I think.

Slapping Daddy

Angry at just be removed against my wishes. I saw a red mist descend. My Daddy looked at me and was explaining why it was time to go, but it was too late. I had enough of him. Without hesitation, I looked at my Daddy in the eye, my eyes filled with fire and I slapped him on his cheek.

I paused to assess the reaction. Everything stopped. Cars squealed to a halt, passers-by stopped and stared. The sky suddenly filled with clouds. However, I had committed to the attack and I went in for a second blow. This time, a scratch attack. The attack landed with devastating effect. 3 long lines of red appeared down the side of my Daddy’s face, with blood starting to appear.

Annoyingly, my Daddy didn’t react to it. I wanted him to be angry so I could see my plan had worked, but he said and did nothing. He put me in the car and got into the driver’s seat. This made me more upset. How dare he not care about me hurting him. I had one option remaining to me, go all in with the attack.

The opportunity arose, when my Daddy turned around in the car and put his hand on my knee. He started to explain why what I did was wrong. Whilst ignoring him, my thoughts were, “Oh really Daddy? Scratching is wrong is it…how about THIS!” I proceeded to scratch Daddy again all down his arm.

Victory?

My Daddy stopped speaking. Victory at last! Or was it?

6 Chicken Nuggets and some chips later, I found myself sat on Daddy’s knee saying sorry and even kissed his hand to make it better. How did I get here? How did this happen? This is when I learned what the word “hangry” meant.

Rather embarrassingly, my rage may have been because I was too tired and too hungry. It all seemed like a dream after I had eaten some food. One minute I was attacking Daddy and wanted the world to burn, next thing I know I am apologising and kissing the wounds I created, begging for forgiveness. This was no victory.

Despite the outcome, it is safe to say we all learned something from this experience. I learned that you make better choices when you have a full belly of food. My Daddy learned that he needs to cut my nails more often.
