“Evelyn the Builder” – Evelyn’s Diaries

Ever since starting nursery, my schedule has been full on! Every weekday morning, I am taken to nursery for hours of games, singing and playing with friends. When I am picked up at dinner time, I am exhausted and look forward to an afternoon of relaxing. However, this has not been the case this week, as I have been roped into a major project at my Nanna’s house!

I quickly found out about this project when I arrived back at my Nanna’s house when I saw my uncle in the front garden with a wheel barrow and a spade. Not being a one to miss out on outdoor fun and games, I was soon stood next to him assessing his work. Having watched my uncle repeatedly pick up gravel with his spade and put it into his wheel barrow, I used my experience of outdoor projects to determine that he must have been planning on taking the gravel somewhere else.

Becoming Project Manager

However, it all seemed so chaotic and my uncle looked like he needed help. There was one thing missing…a project manager. Therefore, I appointed myself project manager. I grabbed my little spade and my own little wheel barrow and took control.

I will be honest, my uncle was a good apprentice. He listened to my commands, worked hard and most importantly, he respected my authority. Even though I was really tired from nursery, managing this new project brought a spring into my step. I am a demanding project manage and have high standards. Whenever my uncle started slacking, I was on him straight away with a firm instruction to speed up.

We made two trips with wheel barrows full of gravel, from the front garden to the back garden. After that, I got a bit bored and decided that my uncle can do this work by himself now and I can manage from afar.

Managing From Afar

For the next hour or so, I enjoyed sitting in the nice warm house, with a drink and a snack, watching my uncle do all the hard work. Is it mean that I was hoping it would rain?

Before long, the project was complete. All the gravel had been moved from the front garden to the back garden. I felt very proud of myself that straight out of finishing nursery, I stepped into a chaotic project in desperate need of help and was able to turn it around. All through my leadership and motivation skills.

So if you have an outdoor project in desperate need of an inspiring leader who will get the job done, get in touch! I don’t have a phone, so just ask my Mammy and Daddy.
