“Hide and Seek” – Evelyn’s Diaries

I am the master of camouflage! Now let me explain why…

There is this brand new game that I have started playing with my Nanna in her garden. The game is called “Hide and Seek”, you probably won’t have heard of it before as me and my Nanna made it up.

However, the rules of the game are simple. Firstly, my Nanna covers her eyes, and she counts to 10. Whilst my Nanna is counting, I have to run away and hide somewhere she can’t see me. It is my Nanna’s job to come and find me. We usually play in the garden, as there are lots of good places to hide. Plus, it is nice to get my Nanna out of the house for some fresh air every now and then.

As it turns out, I am excellent at Hide and Seek. My Nanna is always completely amazed at how well I hide. She will walk around the garden saying, “Evelyn, where are you!?” All whilst I am hidden away laughing to myself as she walks past me over and over again.

Take a look at the photo, I bet you can’t even spot me hiding!

After a while, I have to give my Nanna a hint and I will make a noise or laugh so that she can find me more easily. If I didn’t do that, I would still be stood in that bush now. Once I am found, the game starts again and I find a new hiding spot. Finding hiding spots are easy to be honest. Despite how difficult it is for my Nanna to find me, she keeps playing and keeps trying, which is nice of her.

I am starting to lose track of all the skills I have now. I am a pilot, I can drive a tractor, I am a deep sea diver and an excellent fitness instructor, just to name a few! Now I can add master of camouflage to my list of ever-growing skills.

How should I use my camouflage skills?

As a result, I have been spending some time trying to think of the best uses of my camouflaging skills. One of my favourite ideas, is to camouflage in our kitchen and steal my Mammy and Daddy’s chocolate eggs. After that, I am going to hide when it is time for my bath. That way my Mammy and Daddy will just have to go to bed and I can stay downstairs and play with my toys all night. Finally, I am just going to hide so I can scare Mammy.

My Mammy is very easy to scare. My Daddy and I do it all the time, we sneak up behind her and shout at her. She will usually scream, or jump up and then she tells my Daddy off for doing it. I get all the fun, he gets all the trouble, its perfect!

So a word of warning to you all…when you are going about your day to day business, just be careful…I could be anywhere! Ready to pounce! Ready to scare you! You will never see it coming!
