“Sunny days at the park” – Evelyn’s Diaries

It may be summer, but you certainly wouldn’t realise it by looking at the weather recently! I have spent countless hours with my face pressed up against the window, wanting to play outside but not being able to because of the constant rain. I have my trampoline, my slide and all my outside toys waiting for me in the garden, but never have chance to play with them.

However, it seems that summer has finally arrived this week, as we have had some sunny days at last. So I have had a lot more opportunities to play in the garden at home and at both my Nanna’s houses. What has been even more exciting, is that I have had the chance to go on trips out with my Nanna’s and my Mammy and Daddy, to make use of the warm weather.

This week I have been out to the Library with one of my Nanna’s, my Mammy took me to the local park and most recently, I visited a brand new park with my other Nanna and Grandad, and Daddy tagged along too!

The brand new park was really big. It had lots of trees, lots of grass to run around on, a play area and the best part…a duck pond! However, as it was a very sunny today, it is important to make sure you don’t get burnt by the sun, because it is very hot. Therefore, I have thought of some very clever ideas to protect yourself from the sun.

Evelyn’s tips for preventing sun burn

First of all, you can get some sun cream from your Mammy or Daddy and you rub that cream over all the parts of your body that will be in the sun. It may make you look like a snowman, as you are all white, but you are safer from the sun!

Secondly, sun glasses may make you look really cool, however, I found another use for them. You can also wear them on sunny days so it is easier to see. As the sun can be very bright and make you squint your eyes.

Finally, if you wear a hat like mine in the picture, it has a really useful sticky outy bit at the front, that stops the sun going on your face. So if you don’t have one, by one of those sticky outy hats and thank me later.

I had lots of fun at the park with my Daddy, Nanna and Grandad. We started off by running around the pretty flowers. Next we made out way over to the duck pond. But it was really weird, because at the duck pond, there weren’t that many ducks. There were more geese and swans than ducks. So really, it should be called the geese swan duck pond, just so peoples expectations are managed.

After the geese swan duck pond, we made our way over to the play area. I have to be honest, the play area was a bit overwhelming. There were lots of different things to do, but there were children of all ages running around everywhere! I couldn’t concentrate on what I wanted to do. As a result, I didn’t really end up playing on anything, I spent more time watching everyone else play. Looking back, this was a mistake…who knows when it will be sunny again.

Pub lunch

We ended our trip by going to the pub for some lunch. I decided to have sausages and chips, my Daddy had a pizza and my Nanna and Grandad had this weird brown, lumpy soup with a big ball of mush in the middle. Apparently it was called mince and dumplings. I will stick to my sausages and chips.

I hope we have lots more sunny days before it gets all cold and dark again. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching TV and playing with my toys in the house, but I am just sick of the sight of my Daddy’s face and welcome any opportunity to go look at a duck instead.
